Hey everyone! Today, I ran into a bit of a tricky issue while trying to read a UFS chip and wanted to share what I learned in case it helps you out.

Here is the error I encountered:
UFS Read Error – UFS_0002.00 0xEC

Error UFS_0002.00 0xEC
SCSI_READ_10 STALL_CONDITION
LBA: 0x001EB000

At first glance, it is easy to assume the problem is with your hardware, box, adapter, or connection. However, that is not always the case!

If Secure Write Protect is active on the UFS, the chip will often read normally up to a certain point and then suddenly stop once it hits a protected area. That is why the read process halts with a STALL_CONDITION at a specific LBA.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to get a 100% full UFS read until you remove that protection condition. So, before you spend time troubleshooting your programmer or adapters, be sure to check the UFS protection status first!

I hope sharing this saves some fellow technicians a bit of headache during your UFS read operations.
